Global automotive leaders, technology experts and government representatives have gathered in Haikou, south China’s Hainan Province, to discuss the future of transportation and the automotive sector at the 2024 World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC). Themed “Low Carbon Evolution and Global Cooperation,” the three-day event kicked off on Friday.

Speaking at a forum on addressing climate change, Wan Gang, chairman of the WNEVC, highlighted the importance of international collaboration to overcome challenges in new energy vehicle adoption and promote a sustainable automotive industry.

At another forum on technology innovation and future automobile, Chinese automaker BYD’s chief scientist, Lian Yubo, envisions cars of the future focusing on core innovations and using intelligent systems to ease traffic and transform interiors into multifunctional spaces, fostering a new relationship between people and vehicles.

The event, co-hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology, the People’s Government of Hainan Province, and the Ministry of Science and Technology, will feature 24 sessions, aiming to promote the sustainable development of the new energy vehicle sector, and strengthen global cooperation to jointly achieve the goal of carbon neutrality. 

The event underscores the commitment to sustainable transportation and the role of new energy vehicles in achieving global climate goals. Major global brands are also displaying their latest NEV technologies and products during the event.
