China Media Group (CMG) and Spanish top football league La Liga have reached an agreement over cooperation on media rights, both CMG and La Liga announced on Tuesday.

According to the agreement, CMG will broadcast the 2024-25 La Liga games on all platforms, gaining the media rights of La Liga content both for TV and digital platforms. Moreover, the two sides will cooperate on other fronts including business communication and promoting youth development.

La Liga president Javier Tebas said he’s glad to cooperate with CMG to bring the excitement of the Spanish league to the Chinese audience. Football will grow to become the bond of friendship and mutual understanding of between people of the two countries via the efforts of La Liga and CMG.

In an interview with CMG in September, Tebas said that La Liga wanted to launch cooperation with CMG on more prospects, including broadcasting technologies.

“We want to share La Liga’s experience with Chinese friends to promote the development of the football industry in China,” Tebas said.

Considering the time difference between China and Spain, La Liga has adjusted the kickoff time of many games, including “El Clasico” between Real Madrid and Barcelona, for more of the Chinese audience to have access to such competitions. Tebas has expressed intention to further discuss with CMG on how to meet Chinese fans’ needs.
