Four Chinese table tennis players, Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu, Liang Jingkun and Lin Gaoyuan beat their opponents in the first-round singles matches at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Macao in China’s Macao Special Administrative Region on Monday.

Sun faced the toughest challenge from Jeon Ji-hee of South Korea in the women’s singles event. Sun won the first two games both by only two points (14-12, 12-10), but improved her form in the process before sealing the deal 11-1 in the third game.

“I think Jeon played well today,” Sun told reporters after the match. “It’s true that I haven’t trained in a systematic way since the 2024 Paris Olympic Games ended, but that’s something professional players have to get used to because competitions follow each other closely.”

Wang knocked out Bernadette Szocs of Romania 11-7, 11-4, 5-11, 11-9 to advance to the second round.

On the men’s side, Liang registered a 3-0 (11-3, 11-4, 11-6) win over Edward Ly of Canada. Lin swept Omar Assar of Egypt 11-6, 11-6, 11-8 to move on at the tournament.

“I took some days off after the Olympics and returned to regular training sessions recently,” Liang said. “It’s very helpful and I felt good in the match.”
