China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) will send a total of 23 athletes to the upcoming 2024 Paris Summer Paralympics that will begin on August 28.
Leung Lai Yin, the head of China’s Hong Kong SAR delegation, told reporters on Friday that some of the athletes will compete at the Paralympics for the first time in their careers. He expects them to be in their best form and showcase their best efforts in Paris.
Ng Cheuk-yan, 14, is set to be the youngest-ever para-athlete in team history of China’s Hong Kong SAR. She won three gold and two bronze medals at the Para Swimming World Series in Singapore in May.
“I felt so excited when I won titles at the major international tournament,” Ng told reporters. “I need to arrange my time for both school and preparation for the Paralympics in a balanced way, so time distribution is important to me. I want to be in my best form at the Para Games.”
Athletes from China’s Hong Kong SAR will compete in eight sports including archery, badminton, swimming and athletics.
