China defeated Vietnam 2-0 in their second game at the women’s football Yongchuan International Tournament in southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality on Tuesday, winning the championship of the program with two wins.
Both teams beat Uzbekistan before facing each other – China 3-0 on October 26 and Vietnam 2-0 on October 23 – so, the winner of this game will lift the trophy.
The hosts opened score in the 41st minute when Zhang Xin received a long pass open in the box. She took the opportunity and netted first for China.
Though China’s coach Ante Milicic sent multiple backup players to the field in the second half, they stood up against Vietnam’s increasingly rally, safeguarding their advantage. Then in the third minute of stoppage time, Vietnam saw chaos in the area and allowed an own goal by Tran Thi Thu Thao.
China haven’t played any international game in as many as five months before the Yongchuan Tournament. Milicic said he’s satisfied with the team’s performance of keeping a clean sheet after the 3-0 win over Uzbekistan.
“The result sent a positive signal,” the coach told reporters.
“The new coach has brought us new atmosphere, new style of play and new tactics,” Tang Jiali said. “Little by little, we have been trying to do what he requests on the field. I hope we can play with better excitement and coordination in the future.”
