The 19th China Changchun Film Festival kicked off on Wednesday in Changchun, northeast China’s Jilin Province under the theme “New Era, New Cradle, New Power.”
Fifteen films were entered into the final competition for the Golden Deer, the award for best film, including “Pegasus 2,” “Endless Journey,” “Only the River Flows,” “Viva La Vida,” “Article 20,” and “A Place Called Silence.”
The award committee for the Golden Deer Award consists of a chairman and six judges, making a total jury panel of seven. Renowned female director Li Shaohong will chair the jury. Screenwriter Ran Ping, cinematographer and director Bao Dexi, actors Yan Bingyan and Cheng Taishen, art director Cao Jiuping, and music producer Yu Fei will all serve as judges.
In addition to the awards, the festival also includes outdoor and indoor public screenings, forums, summits and symphony concerts to promote young film talent.
The China Changchun Film Festival was first held in 1992. With great cultural significance, the city of Changchun is known as the birthplace of Chinese cinema. Since 2021, the festival has changed from a biennial to an annual event. This year’s festival runs until September 1.
